Triathlon Training Programs for Beginner and Intermediate Athletes Preparing for
By The Beach Races
Train with Body and Mind Solutions to compete in all of By The Beach Productions Races and/or to prepare for the ocean swim!  Due to the overwhelming
success of last years event we are bringing two Mermaids to the Bay Area. The unique atmosphere offers an environment full of support, encouragement, and
fun. Keeping the distances short makes the Mermaid an ideal event for the first time triathlete as well as provides a fun, fast race for the seasoned veteran.
Both events will be a USAT-sanctioned triathlon.

Who:
Beginner through intermediate athletes. Groups will be formed relative to a person's athletic abilities.

When:
  • By The Beach Productions Adventure Race, March 12, 2005. Race location: TBA. Training begins January 1, 2005.
  • By The Beach Productions Duathlon and Sprint Triathlon, April 17, 2005. Race location: TBA. Training begins in February, 1, 2005.
  • Mermaid Triathlon #1 (women only), Sprint distance, June 26, 2005, Fremont, CA. Training begins March, 1, 2005.
  • Santa Cruz Triathlon: Dr. Warren Scott's Challenge, Olympic and Sprint Triathlons, July 10, 2005. Aptos, CA.  Training begins April 1, 2005.  We aren't
    kidding.
  • Mermaid Triathlon #2 (women only), September 18, 2005, Santa Cruz, CA - Training begins June 1, 2005.

    Format:
    A structured group training program centered around your race goals.  The program includes a structured training plan, weekly communication, weekly
    workouts, nutrition advice, discounted private coaching sessions, mental training session, goal setting, and a ton of fun.

    Topics Covered:
    Swim
  • Swimming gear-wetsuit tips and tricks, goggles vs masks, when is it too warm to use a wetsuit?
  • Swimming techniques-ocean, lakes, rivers and pools how they differ
  • Swimming experiences-things to keep in mind during a race, "This started to happen so I did that"
  • Swimming resources-aquatic park swims, local pools, books, masters programs

Bike
  • Bicycle gear (tools, aerobars & wheels & other stuff, bento boxes, water bottles &different cages,  patch kits, tools)
  • Bicycle maintenance (how to change a tire, how to check and clean your bike before a ride or race, what to do during a race when if something goes
    wrong, what to always have with you)
  • Cycling techniques-cycling etiquette – it's a matter of safety, how to ride a pace line/down a hill, the importance of knowing the race course, and why you
    WON'T learn proper road skills riding with a tri-club
  • Cycling experiences (race and ride stories, training tips, heart rate monitors)
  • Cycling Resources (weekend rides, weekday rides, cycling and maintenance books)    

Run
  • Running styles and techniques
  • Running gear (shoes, hats, belts, good clothing, heart rate monitors)
  • Running experiences (bricks, should I carry water/Gu?)
  • Running resources (track workouts, books)

Transitions
  • Transition gear (triathlon and transition gear checklist, how to set-up)
  • Transition experiences (timing, differences in sprints vs longer races, I used up how much time?)

Program Fees
The cost for the training programs will be $320 per person.  A Program Packet will be sent out 1 month before the training programs start, so that everyone will
know where to meet and who will be there.  Swim clinics range between $40 and $80 per clinic.
